BACK IN JULY, fans were seriously disappointed when all three of LCD Soundsystem’s Dublin shows sold out within seconds.
Because the maximum capacity for the Olympia Theatre is just 1,247, only around 3,741 tickets went up for sale. One of the lucky attendants (who probably got to bypass the nightmare-like experience of using Ticketmaster to secure his place) was Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
Leo’s luck continued when he was brought backstage after last night’s show.
However, according to guitarist Al Doyle’s tweets, he was less than impressed with what he saw backstage. Al tweeted that he was wearing a ‘Repeal’ tote around his neck in front of him, which made Leo walk away. Doyle then went on to call the Taoiseach a ‘tosser’.
Minister for European Affairs Helen McEntee had to have her say after Al posted his tweet.
This isn’t a joke. The Fine Gael TD wrote:
Many people responded to Helen McEntee’s tweet pointing out that many people in government have been raising the issue of repealing the Eighth Amendment for many years and have been ignored. All Leo has done is suggest a date for a referendum.
The Workers Solidarity Movement then invited Al Doyle to join the March for Choice later on today. The band do not appear to have any more tour dates until the middle of October, so they could potentially still be hanging around in Dublin today.
Could be worth keeping an eye out for.
